This is why I chose to make this my last post of the term.
On Sakai, Professor Findlay posted sample professional contracts from the MLB, NHL, and the NFL. Since I have a big interest in NCAA sports, and not so much in North American professional sport, I felt like this would be a perfect way to close out the blog assignment. I took a look through the MLB sample contract that was provided to us on Sakai, and took three separate clauses out to discuss and interpret what they mean. Where applicable, I tried to identify what type of clause they each were.
Since the document was a PDF, I took a screenshot of each clause and put the photo above the corresponding analysis/description.
With teams being so far away at one point, it was tough for players to meet these contractual obligations as quick as possible. However, there has been a recent shift in minor league teams to make things easier for players and teams alike. Minor league teams are being moved around so they are closer to their big league teams, making the promotion and demotion of players an easier transition. For the Toronto Blue Jays, their AAA farm club used to be the Las Vegas 51s. That distance made things harder for the team to recall players. Now that the team is in Buffalo, it's easier for players to report to the minor league teams, avoiding the repercussions of the condition subsequent clause.
